Background
The Petit Lenormand is named after Marie Anne Lenormand (1772–1843), a famous French cartomancer, though decks bearing her name appeared after her death. It is modelled on Das Spiel der Hoffnung, a game of chance published around 1799 by Johann Kaspar Hechtel of Nuremberg.
How it works
Cards are read in combination, usually two or three at a time, so neighbouring cards modify each other. The Grand Tableau lays out all 36 cards in a grid.
Notes and limits
Safety: A reading is a prompt for reflection, not a prediction.
Licensing: 19th-century Lenormand card designs are public domain; many modern Lenormand decks have copyrighted artwork. This site uses its own illustrations.
