What is a Kundli?
A Kundli, or Janma Kundli, is a Vedic birth chart calculated from your date, time and place of birth. It maps where the Sun, Moon, planets and the lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu stood at that moment, and it is the starting point for every traditional Jyotish reading.
What you can explore
- The 12 houses and the planets in them
- Planet strengths, signs and nakshatras
- Dasha periods — the planetary timeline of life
- Yogas and doshas found in the chart
- Current transits and Sade Sati
- Divisional charts such as the Navamsa (D9)
How we calculate your Kundli
How our calculations work in detail →
Your birth details
Date, time and place of birth.
Location and time zone
The birthplace gives the latitude, longitude and the UTC offset in force on that date — including old war-time and daylight-saving rules.
Planet positions
Our astronomy engine calculates each planet, then converts to the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsa. It is cross-checked against the Swiss Ephemeris.
Vedic analysis
Lagna, whole-sign houses, nakshatras, Vimshottari Dasha and yogas are worked out from those positions.
Why does birth time matter?
The Ascendant (Lagna) moves through all twelve signs in a day — roughly one sign every two hours — so the birth time decides the Lagna and which house each planet falls in. The Moon moves much more slowly, so your Moon sign and usually your nakshatra stay the same even if the time is uncertain.
If your time is approximate or unknown, we check every possible time and show only the results that stay the same, marking the rest as not determined.
Frequently asked questions
View all FAQs →Is the Kundli really free?
Yes. The birth chart, planet positions, Dasha periods and the chart sections on this page are free, and you do not need an account to see them.
Do I need my exact birth time?
An exact time gives the most precise Ascendant (Lagna) and houses. If you only know it roughly, choose "Approximate"; if you do not know it, choose "I don't know" and we show only what can be determined without it.
What information do I need?
Your date of birth, time of birth (if known) and place of birth. A name is optional and only labels the chart.
Which astrology system does VedicsAstro use?
Vedic (Jyotish) astrology: the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, whole-sign houses, mean Rahu/Ketu and Vimshottari Dasha.
Can I save my Kundli?
Yes, with a free account you can save one chart and open it again later. Paid plans keep more charts, for example for family members.
Can I download a PDF report?
PDF reports are included with the paid plans (Silver, Gold and Platinum) and are downloaded from your dashboard.
