How this reading works
These readings follow the widely published modern Anglo/American cartomancy tradition with a standard 52-card deck and no jokers. Hearts speak of love, friendship and home; Diamonds of money and material life; Clubs of work, ambition and growth; Spades of challenges, messages and obstacles. Cards are read upright, and red cards lean positive while black cards ask for care.
Each suit is given a theme and each rank a meaning; cards are drawn into a spread and read together.
Cartomancy appeared soon after playing cards were introduced into Europe in the 14th century. In France the 32-card piquet deck is most often used, though a 52-card deck also works.
