KP chart: cusps, sub lords and significators

The KP system divides the zodiac into 249 sub-divisions and reads each house through the sub lord of its Placidus cusp. Enter an exact birth time — KP sub lords change every few minutes.

About these calculations

Positions come from our own astronomy engine (cross-checked against the Swiss Ephemeris). KP longitudes use the Krishnamurti ayanamsa, defined here as Lahiri minus 5′48.7″ — the constant difference between the two in the Swiss Ephemeris. Cusps are Placidus, matching the Swiss Ephemeris to within 0.001°. Rahu and Ketu are the mean nodes; some KP software uses the true node, which can change a node’s sub lord. KP software also differs in small conventions, so a sub lord right at a boundary may differ by one.

Positions are accurate to about 3′ (0.05°). That is finer than any sub (at least 40′ wide), but not always finer than a sub-sub (the smallest is 2′), so treat sub-sub lords as indicative. A planet or cusp marked ≈ lies within 3′ of a sub boundary, where the neighbouring sub lord could be the true one — check the birth time closely.

This page gives the KP chart, not predictions. Judging an event in KP means reading the sub lord of the relevant cusp and its significations with the running dasha — best done with a KP astrologer.
